The Design Hive began this project with numerous meetings at Mendip District Council offices. The meetings were necessary to go over the fine details, to discuss their current branding, digging up history about the area and buildings and deciding which places of interest needed to appear on the map. This was to be one of the most challenging and detailed single map panels we had ever designed, with many man hours under our belts to ensure the map was accurate and beautifully illustrated for the public.
There were 18 illustrations in total, the map itself, a magnified section of Shepton Mallet High Street, a key with symbols drawn to show places of interest and finally the panel design.
Once the panel was designed and prepared for printing, we then worked with our partner signage company, who printed the panel, manufactured the frames and installed it in various locations around Shepton Mallet.
